A former Fish Market and its associated office were renovated and extended to create 72 residential apartments and ground floor mixed use accommodation.
The adopted solution was to “pair” the building with a parallel new block behind with an entrance and circulation space between the old and new, thus providing vertical circulation and means of escape for both the old and new blocks without compromise to the listed staircase.
The retained walls of the old Fish Market building complete the enclosure of the west and east sides creating an enclosed city garden. Clear distinction has been made between the old and new architecture.
