Competition entry for an open international architectural competition. The project brief was for a new Mosque for 450 worshippers located on the outskirts of Preston, Lancashire.
The building is conceived as a contemporary hilltop citadel, reminiscent of the origins of medieval architecture in England and the Roman occupation that preceded it.
The architecture of forts, their boundary walls, and inner courtyards, layered together the Industrial Heritage of the region and the 5 senses of touch, smell, feel, sight and sound, create an architecture that represents both British and Islamic culture.
Constructed from rammed earth, the building has a timeless feel, a reference to the architecture of ancient citadels.
