st petersgate

The project is a new build mixed-use scheme comprising 93 apartments, 5 townhouses and 2 retail units in the town centre of Stockport. The site lies immediately adjacent the St Petersgate Conservation Area, which posed several architectural challenges.

The scheme comprises three architectural elements; a heavy brickwork base, reminiscent of the Victorian mill that once occupied the site; a slender tower which sits asymmetrically on the base; and an external stair tower akin to the many chimneys prevalent in Stockport’s bygone Victorian era . A sawtooth roof adorns the brickwork base, containing the rooftop duplexes and completes the warehouse aesthetic.

The external fabric takes precedent from the local millinery heritage, using weaving patterns for the brickwork on the base and the warp and weft patterns for the composition of the tower.
