This Grade 2 listed Victorian gothic Sunday School in Hulme had last been used as an African Community Centre and was left vacant. Having been vandalised for years, it formed a paradise for dry & wet rot and pigeons and drug users too. The building was set on fire and caused substantial damage to the main structure.
Our main intention was to restore the fabric and respect the history of the building. Intervention would be required to allow for the building to function as a nursery. The combination of the constraint of existing structures, the status and condition of the building together with the demand of our client’s brief and their budget made this project a challenging one.
